Brain Dump!

When your head hits your pillow do you fall asleep?

Back in the day, before children that is, I was sawin' logs the second I lay down.  Go figure now that I average about 5 hours of interrupted sleep each night and should be exhausted, as soon as I get all comfy in my bed my head explodes with thoughts...

what to do tomorrow,

what I didn't get done today,

hey diddle diddle and other annoying nursery rhymes that get stuck on repeat,

ahhhhh!

The more I think "I need to fall asleep" the longer it takes.  So here is my experiment called operation Brain Dump.  After I lay my head on my pillow I picture me unzipping all the way around my head and letting anything inside fall out!  Sounds like it should work, right?  Try the Brain Dump with me and let me know how it works for you.

Thanks, Love ya.
Yep!  #1 daughter asleep sitting in a bowl.

Listen In!

I know I already posted a Listen In! for The Black Keys but I could not resist posting on the lead singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach.  I love his voice and music!  Check out his solo stuff...

Finally!

Remember my post Above Average!?  You can go back and read it if you would like to, unfortunately a more appropriate title for this season would have been Where's the Snow?.

This weekend we finally got just enough snow to build a snowman!  I know some are happy for the warm winter but we are not at our house.  Witness the pure joy of one little girl who has been waiting for the snow for months...

Lesson Learned!

Answer: Your drivers license is 7 months expired!

What is you give birth to premature twin babies a few weeks after your drivers license expired on your birthday and you had no idea!
Aren't they cute!
Cut to 7 months later and the adventure of renewing said drivers license...
And my rant begins!

New rules here in Utah state that you must prove who you are with many forms of unexpired (key word) identification.  I probably should have done a little research before hauling all the kiddos to the department of motor vehicles to wait in line for an hour to find out I was out of luck.  Bad news is my passport is also expired and I did not posses a copy of my birth certificate.  I did have my social security card which is apparently good for nothing.

Long rant longer, this is how the scenario played out.

Step 1: Obtain a babysitter!  Thanks Grandma Becky!

Step 2: Obtain a birth certificate.  It was $18 and I had to pay cash because my i.d. is expired and not knowing this before, because every where takes a debit card without checking the expiration on your i.d., I was left to dig through my purse to scrape together enough coinage to cover the cost.  Paid, all good now... wrong, I still have the problem of the expired i.d. and passport so to prove I am me I must show the registration of my car which my name is not on!  I think the lady just felt bad for me and accepted the car insurance paper with my name on it because she was worried I might lose it.  Birth certificate obtained I was headed back to the DMV.

Step 3: Wait in line to get a number and have a fabulous photo taken.

Step 4: Wait for my number to be called.

Step 5: Eye test, pay money (here they accepted my debit card?) and everything looks good... nope, I get to take a 25 question written test because my license is more than 6 months expired, ahhhh!

Step 6: Pass a 25 question open book (thankfully) test!

What a day!  Only thing I can say is let me be your example of what not to do.  Avoid a headache and check the expiration date on your personal documents!

Thanks, Love ya.

Valentining!

Growing up Valentines Day was a pretty fun holiday.  I remember taking my little Valentine cards and candy to school to pass out to my classmates carefully placing it in their giant handmade paper heart envelope.  Then painstakingly and awkwardly accompanying some little boy to the library for the "Valentines Tea" where we were served a cookie and some punch.

Oh those were the days...

Turns out the Husbands family has a great tradition on Valentines Day called Valentining!  First you get a great prize (or two or three) then you sneak to the house of the one you love drop it at the door, knock and run.  Needless to say #1 daughter was going out of her mind with excitement running from the front door to the back door collecting prizes all day long!  When we tried to get Grandma back at her house we were busted hiding behind the tree because she could hear laughter.  And due to unplanned but good timing Baby Girl and Boy even received a prize from Russia!  Next year I encourage all of you to try Valentining!  It was a great day, thank you for all the fun!

Thanks, Love ya

Listen In!

The Avett Brothers!
This is such a good band, I like every song I hear them sing!  The Avett Brothers combine many different styles of music... folk, indie rock, alt country, and roots rock to name a few!  I feel like I don't get bored listening for extended periods of time because I enjoy the diversity of their music.  Without trying to be the music critic I am not I will just say they sound nice to my ears!  The Avett Brothers official website leaves a lot to be desired so check out their You Tube channel instead!

Is that all?

Our tree is already down, "most" of the candy has been hidden away, and we made two trips to the recycling center today.  All the hype and all the build up to Christmas day explodes when the day after you think "is that all"!

It was summed up perfectly by #1 daughter who with disappointment in her voice said to Uncle Kev today, "kismiss is oder".  It is quite a let down especially for someone who is only 3 feet tall and just experienced her first Christmas in which she actually had an idea of what was going on.

There were presents, food, family, fun, and today there was the crash...

She really wanted to go to the park but was out before we got 2 blocks from home!
Sportin' her awesome hat, knitted by Auntie O!
I just thought this one was cute, looks like she got busted eating all the cookies!

I guess it's time to start getting ready for next year!

Thanks, Love ya.

Reindeer Food!

We made Reindeer Food!  It's really easy, here is what you need...

*Floral Moss - Grass from the North Pole!
*Quick Cook Oats - A reindeer's favorite treat!
*Tinsel - Silver hay to help keep the reindeer warm!
*Glitter or Confetti - Sprinkles to make the reindeer fly extra fast!
*A container to put your finished reindeer food in.

You can use any or all of these ingredients to make reindeer food.  I got everything from the dollar store including cute little containers to hold the grub, it was super cheap.  We had lots of fun, made a big mess, and #1 daughter is excited to spread it all over the yard so the reindeer have a treat while Ho Ho delivers her Christmas presents!

Put all the ingredients in a big bowl.
Use lots of grass from the North Pole!
Mix it all up, hands work best!

Sprinkle all over outside your house to treat the reindeer!

 Thanks, Love ya.

Book Report

We love to read in our house and #1 daughters favorite book at the moment is Snowmen at Christmas by Caralyn Buehner!  This fun book is about how the snowmen we build sneak off to celebrate Christmas when we all go to sleep.

The first snowmen book we got was Snowmen at Night and I think we've read it a hundred times or more.  There is also Snowmen All Year which we don't own yet but we borrowed it from the library and it is just as good as the other two.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift for your little one(s) I highly reccomend these books!

Thanks, Love ya.
